I met Jose on the playground while getting a drink of water
We decided to play together on the teeter totter.
I can slide and jump and climb by myself all day.
But when it comes to the seesaw, it takes two to play.

We may not meet again as we each go our own way
But we'll still have a lot of fun having a friend today.
A friend can be forever or just a smile along the way.
And even for a moment, I'm glad you're my friend today.

I met Mei Ling on the city bus and I thought she looked cool.
She wasn't from my neighborhood and didn't go to my school.
But we played Mary Mack from Market to 8th Street.
And even though I had to go, I'm glad we got to meet.

I met Jamal at the library; he looked about my age.
He was laughing as he was reading, and pointed to the page.
He read in funny voices, and then so did I.
We laughed and read together until we said goodbye.
